The
Lakewood Arts Council - Touching People, a Few at a
Time:
The Lakewood Arts Council continues its long-standing
tradition of bringing a wide range of arts activities
to the community through numerous activities aimed at
small audiences. Our goal is to create friendships through
the arts and to provide people with personal contact
with artists and fellow patrons. These gatherings may
be as small as 15 - 20 people or medium size groups
for 50 - 75. The thing that makes them unique is that
rather then serving large audiences of 200-300, these
programs bring a much needed social and friendly encounter
for the patrons - a relaxed atmosphere that uses the
arts to bring people together. At our concert series
at the Miners Alley Playhouse, visitors have a chance
to hear a wide range of usic in a small, intimate setting.
Following the performance, they can mingle with the
performers, enjoy refreshments, and visit with new or
long-time friends. The same personal touch is felt at
the enrichment luncheons where guests not only hear
from an interesting speaker discussing a unique art
topic but also get to gather over lunch for a pleasant
afternoon. Larger gatherings occur at LAC's visual arts
receptions - but the same sense of personal contact
prevails. Guests are greeted at the door, often by LAC
president Loraine Miller. Artists wear nametags in recognition
of their participation in the exhibit, volunteers are
publically recognized, and award winers are honored.
The large group ends up with a feeling of comraderie
that is often missing at other gatherings. In a time
when people's lives are so hectic and busy..when everything
has to be bigger and grander, how nice that LAC continues
to add the personal touch and brings people together
in friendship through the arts.
ArtVentures:
Artventures is an educational resource and an arts enrichment
vehicle to help make the arts accessible to everyone.
Schools, families, and community organizations can journey
through the visual and performing arts with comprehensive
tours, investigation, instruction and interactive workshops
at the Lakewood Cultural Center and Washington Heights
art Center. For more information, call 303-987-7876
or visit
their website.
